I have had this system since 1991 and my flashlight stopped working, so I checked and ordered this one and now both Maglights that work flawlessly. The charger on my 1st one finally went south only took 14 years.

If you want dependability and longevity don’t think about it, just buy it!

5 Stars SAFETY!!!!
We sailed from Charleston South Carolina to Whangarei, New Zealand last year with 2 of these onboard. In the middle of the night, when something goes “bang” this is what I grab for when heading up on deck. The underwater flashlights, leds, and waterproof units are great for their specific tasks, but when you don’t know what your are going to be getting into, this is the one that I want with me!

This is a great flashlight! The price from Amazon is half of what Snap On Tools charges. If you are older or have trouble seeing in dark places, this is the flashlight for you. One word of caution–do not drop when hot!! You will be replacing the bulb.

I bought this flashlight in 1996 and it is clearly the best flashlight I have ever owned. As a police officer I needed a flashlight that was durable, could light up the occupants of a vehicle at night to the point where they are blinded, and allow me to see everything in the vehicle. This flashlight is literally a lifesaver. I have replaced the battery pack once and a few bulbs, and I still use it today. Worth every penny!

5 Stars Sharpening tool, small and compact.
Love this product. Have been using it for a about 6 month now. It works fast and I was able to get the feel for sharpening my henkel and wusthof kitchen knives. I even bring this with me when I go over to my relatives. They love their knives when I am done with them. Takes a little getting used to sharpening by hand, but once you do there is no turning back. I now keep all my knives razor sharp. Two different grades of the stone are fantastic. I would definitely recommend this product.

5 Stars There may be better sharpeners out there, but I’m not looking any further.
There are many blade sharpener systems on the market; and you can spend a pretty penny auditioning and finding the one that suits your needs. There are carbide sharpeners, Arkansas wet stones, oilstones, butcher’s steels, ceramic rod systems, sharpening sticks, and even motorized sharpeners.

Believe me, the DMT Diamond Diafold Fine/Coarse Hone Two Sided Knife Sharpener is the most effective and versatile blade sharpener of them all. It is the best I have ever used–in camp, in the kitchen, or in the workshop. I’m completely happy with mine.

I’ve been sharpening tools for decades, and the most frustrating thing about hand-sharpening is how long it takes to get a good edge. In my sons’ Scout Troop, we have many tools to sharpen -axes, hatchets, kitchen knives, woodcarving gouges, pocket knives— and we have to do it often. The thing the boys love best about my Diafold is at how quickly and easily it can take a dull edge and make it keen. Our scoutmaster didn’t believe me when I said I could sharpen a dull axe head in minutes. After five minutes with the Diafold, wood chopping was a breeze.

I like its design–the surface is plenty long at 4 inches and about an inch wide, and the Diafold’s cover folds back to form a handle, making it about 8 inches long when in use. You can draw it across the blade like an axe, or draw the blade across it like a knife. It is versatile enough to use on the smallest pen knife or a large splitting maul. Heck, you could probably make quick work on a lawnmower blade if you were so inclined.

Diamond dust is integrated into its sharpening surface (rather than an encrusted top layer), so there’s diamond all the way through. I’ve had mine for a couple of years now, and although it’s plenty-worn, it hasn’t slowed down. Someone always wants to use it.

Yeah, it’s pricey at $25 to $35… But you get what you pay for. And if you shop around, you’ll find lower prices. But make sure it’s a DMT Diafold. You won’t be sorry, and you’ll stop looking for the ideal blade sharpener.

5 Stars This is a handy sharpener!
This product is great…easy to store, easy to use, very portable…the cover is built in. Due to the high quality diamond surface it sharpens much faster than a regular sharpener, it doesn’t require any additional oils(just water if you want to), just rinse off the polka dot pattern of what’s left from sharpening and you’re done. It’s handy to have around the house to do a ‘quick few strokes’ to sharpen whatever tool you happen to be using. The sharpener has 2 grits built in. I like that it’s made in the US.

had great success reviving dull router bits with this tool. i wish the whetstone part was a bit thinner to fit between the carbide tip and anti-kickback finger on my freud saw blade, however DMT offers smaller ‘file’ shaped whetstones better suited for saw blades.

4 Stars quite good for the $$
At $9 delivered, I am quite satisfied. I chortle at the reviews that slag this product for its weak light output and lack of solidity. Well, yeah, it’s not quite a Surefire but then it cost 15 or 20 times less, right?

I had no problems installing the module and tailcap in my light, bought in the late 90s. I visually compared brightness from a brand new stock bulb to the 3-led module. The LED focus is non-adjustable and the central hotspot is significantly dimmer than the tightly-focused incandescent. So if maximum range from your light is important, this upgrade will be a downgrade.

The LED is basically a floodlight, and puts out significantly more light overall than the incadescent bulb focused as a flood. It’s good for walking down the street at night, searching for things under your desk, or finding your way around when the power goes off, etc. But if you are a tactical flashlight ninja looking to melt the eyeballs of your many assailants, you will be unsatisfied. If you are a house or aircraft inspector peering into distant corners of dark attics or aircraft wheel wells, get something stronger.

Overall, I find my upgraded flashlight significantly more useful than when it was stock. It’s brighter and there’s no fooling with focus. The clicker switch is handy and effective, if cheap feeling. Battery life seems excellent.

1 Star Didn’t fit, didn’t work, no help from Nite-ize
I’ve bought the nite-ize LED upgrade, tail switch and IQ switch for a mini-mag 2xAA flashlight.

I’ve thrown it all away. What a disappointment. I was hoping to get a reliable flashlight that would go easy on cheap batteries.

The IQ switch worked for about 5 minutes before it broke.

The (non-IQ) tail switch didn’t fit my older mini-mag. Plus it is not sealed. I bought a new mini-mag light to try this on. After a few weeks, it quit working too.

The LED “upgrade” was very dim compared to my original bulb. Then after a few months, one of the three LEDs quit working.

Terralux is much better. Their TLE-5EX is brighter than the original bulb and it rocks.

Their tail switch fits properly and works great. Plus it is sealed and still allows for a wrist strap, if desired.

I need a reliable flashlight in my job. I emailed Nite-ize outlining the problems I’ve had with their gear. No response.

They have obvious quality control issues. Buyer beware.

Go get Terralux instead.

3 Stars Adequate - that’s all
If you get this and decide to use the switch, save your tailcap. My switch failed after very little use (you don’t have to use it, twisting the head still works). After about 3 years, one of the three LEDs has gone out - probably a bad solder joint since it can be made to go on by bending it a little.

All in all, it doesn’t match the durability of the MagLite itself. I’m replacing it with a new MagLite and their own LED version. I still have the old incandcescent head parts, so it will go back to what it was and live on as a spare.

The photo shows 4 LEDS but it is actually 3.I am not having any problems with my LED or switch. Decent brightness..not focusable like they incandescent bulb. I also have terralux LEDs for my other mini mags and that is much better and brighter but for the price I paid for this nite ize updrage…worth 4 stars.

3 Stars saved batteries & bulbs, lasted 2+ years
I use my mini-mag constantly (PC repair, probing in dark cellars, etc.)Average (estimated) 1+ hour per day. I used to go through 2-3 set of batteries every month(24-36/year) and 2-3 bulbs per year. I bought the kit in 2006. The tail switch was unreliable, so I switched back to the standard tail piece, but the LEDs have lasted 2 years. I can get 6-8 weeks out of batteries (16 batteries/year). Only recently has the circuit started acting up: intermittently the LED’s do not light up. Estimated use 800 - 1500 hours in 2 years. This is short of the 100,000 hour estimate but much better than the 25 hours/bulb I used to get.

I figure I’ve saved 4-6 bulbs and 40+ batteries, well worth the $7.00 original price.
